Description: Shown during Hiroshima 75th Memorial “Peace+Art+Music”, Clement Hanami of Japanese American National Museum told the story of Sadako Sasaki. Sadako, diagnosed with leukemia at age 12 due to exposure to radiation caused by the Hiroshima bombing ten years prior, folded more than 1000 origami cranes before her death. She folded cranes because they are a symbol of good luck. She wanted to live, and the cranes made her wish tangible.
